This CD regroups seven pieces composed during the summer of 1997 as laboratory exercises for what would later become Post-Optical Landscapes. Here, Costis Drygianakis was developing his collage technique. He used preexisting recordings and others specifically devised for the project to assemble pieces somewhere between musique concrète and radio art. The technique is cruder, the results less rich and captivating. Some of this material will find its way onto the magnum opus but in very different forms. Simply put, this CD uses the same building blocks, but achieves a simpler and less solid tower. Many musicians appear here and there, bringing touches of drums, strings, bass, or synthesizers. Once again, the human voice is Drygianakis' instrument of choice. The way he toyed with speed and the overall mood of "Entropy" strongly recalls Frank Zappa's "The Chrome Plated Megaphone of Destiny." "Beginning and End" and "Night Sea" also have interesting textures. Nevertheless, the interest of this CD resides more in its illustrative or historic qualities than the music itself (Drygianakis confesses in his liner notes that these pieces were created with no intention of publication).
