I’m really trying not to worry now Since I found you, I just don’t know how All you can do is something about it All you can do is something about it I’m really tired of not knowing why "All You Can Do Is Something About It" is the third and final single for The Halfways' debut LP In The Interim. The song is about the realization that when faced with undesirable circumstances often brought on by our own doing, we have to make a choice: to stand idly by and let it happen or to do something about it. When I started the music I set out with a very specific goal in mind. I wanted to make a song that "sounded like a painting." Therefore, I decided to include a wide palette of colors (AKA sounds haha) that weave in and out over the main song foundation made up of acoustic guitar, bass and cello (played by the excellent Russell Robinson). The song structure starts out on an introspective note, evolving throughout as the narrator explores his emotions, finally ending right where he started but he has learned something new. The animation for the video was created by my old schoolmate Mario Molina and his working partner Laura Desmery both of whom currently reside in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After having explained the concept and idea for the song, Molina began to create the visual style for the video which was inspired by some of our mutually favorite painters like Van Gogh and Monet. The animated films of Hayao Miyazaki were also a big inspiration on Mario and Laura during the making of this video. With the power of the Internet, we were able to communicate and he sent me periodic updates to the video until it was done and we could not be more pleased with the results.
