The Cornell Chordials, founded in 1997, are Cornell University’s premier co-ed a cappella group. They cover a variety of pop/rock artists and are known for their intensity and unique, edgy style. Their album Smash, released in 2008, followed up the success of their previous album Arrival with numerous honors and awards of its own. Two of its tracks, The City is at War and The Moment I Said It, were chosen for the compilation albums BOCA (Best of College A Cappella) 2009 and Sing V: Groovus, respectively. These compilations feature a sampling of some of the best a cappella in the world. In the 2009 CARAs (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards), Smash was nominated for every category it was eligible for, including Best Song, Best Arrangement, Best Soloist, and Best Mixed Album, winning Runner Up for Best Mixed Album. “Smash is ready for the masses,” said Joseph Bates of RARB (Recorded A Cappella Review Board), “and I am sure many vocal music mavens will want to grab it, especially after all the awards it is going to win.”
