Tough to Love is the first single of Peyton Davis, from her soon to be released debut album "Country Road." Why "Country Road" as a title? Well, a country road describes my journey as a music artist. My musical experience began with singing contemporary a cappella, classical voice and with my school choirs. Additionally, I found great inspiration when singing with my church worship team. While I love all types of music, I feel most at home singing and performing country music. It is the type of music that really speaks to me. The stories are about real life experiences, attitude, heartache, patriotism, humility, pride and love. So… I started on this journey down the “road” of country music and it led me from Southwest Florida to Austin, Texas. Another reason I chose the title "Country Road" is that a country road is a road “less traveled,” which is symbolic to me. I am reminded of one of my favorite poems, written by Robert Frost and entitled, The Road Not Taken. The final lines of the poem are: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Singing and performing country music has made all the difference to me as a performing artist. I want to inspire others, as I have been inspired by the many artists whose “road” I am following. I recognize that pursuing a dream (against all odds) is a tough journey. But, I am learning just how rewarding it can be. I have had the opportunity to work with incredibly talented musicians. I have already met so many amazing people and have learned from all of them. That is what I want to share with all of you! Tough to Love is an emotional, heartfelt country ballad that resonates with so many people, across the generations. The reference in the song to Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd takes us back to a time when people began to openly and honestly express themselves. Tough to Love echoes the same sentiment. It is timeless. Peyton chose to record this particular song written by Jesse Lee and John Eddie because it really spoke to her young life experience, as well as that of lovers throughout history. The style is reminiscent of the country classics performed by Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline. Bass player James Cook and drummer Kent Slucher (of Luke Bryan’s band) really give an emotional performance and Dan Cohen inspires on the guitar. Peyton is humbled and so grateful for their contribution to the entire album, among the other talented musicians and production team who contributed to it. Peyton offers up a fresh but mature sound and delivers an emotional performance that really comes through in the music. She hopes that you love this song and its message as much as she does.
