When Peyton heard a demo of Nowhere America, written by Canaan Smith and Andi Zack-Johnson, she instantly identified with the country “anthem.” It reminded her of her early upbringing in the Midwest and visits to her grandparents’ farm. Even in rural southwest Florida, where she grew up, teens would gather on football game nights to hang out with friends or to roast marshmallows around a bonfire on the beach while singing to guitar music. “The song just paints a picture of the things that are so American…like football games, tailgates, camping under the stars on hot summer nights, skinny dipping and bonfires. In that sense, I found it to be patriotic. I loved what it was about, I could relate to it and knew that I wanted to record it.”
