简介
"Dysutpoia" is the last track off my first Moon Traveler album, Driving Through the Twilight, released in 2009. It can be difficult to give an instrumental tune a good name because there is no lyrical content to summarize it. Instead, I just take what's most pressing on my mind, at the time I am working on or am finishing an instrumental piece, and summarize those thoughts into a title. "Dysutopia" came from a long period of my life when I was trying to figure out what "meaning" is. I wasn't satisfied believing that single things held inherent meaning. I ultimately came to the conclusion that any one thing needs another to become meaningful, that contrast must be present before meaning can manifest itself. Really, contrast IS meaning. The notions of perfectly good and perfectly bad places stimulated my inquiries into meaning the most. Dystopias and utopias, Heaven and Hell, ect. It seemed to me that an existence without contrast would be meaningless. What's good if not for the bad? What's bad if not for the good? "Dysutopia" is also special to me in that many of the musical sections are from the first batches of recordings I ever made, my first breaths of musical creativity. Though "Dysutopia" was finalized around Autumn 2008, some of the sections date back to early 2005. Enjoy!
