"Into The Night" is one of Maurice's "easy" albums. This is not a thought provoking journey of soul searching requiring deep concentration. This is simply a collection of good tunes. Here are twelve straight-forward and well crafted songs that you will quickly find yourself singing along with. These are songs with stimulating lyrics, strong melodies, great hooks, memorable choruses and all infused with Maurice's subtle guitar riffs which are always restrained and melodic with a hint of blues. There are a great variety of styles here, from the rock protest song; "A Day Without A War" through the sleazy Tarantino-style jazz of "Barrel Of A Gun" to the pulsing rhythms of the creepy stalker in "Lovestruck". There is serious history, both ancient and modern, in the Celtic folk song "Banks O' Teviot" and in recession led hard rock of "Steeltown". However, there are also upbeat pop music in the synth led "Another World" and the (could have been written for (Van Morrison) big bright choruses of "Sha Na Na". There's also a nod to the late, great Johnny Cash in the acoustic blues of "Take" and another to author Stephen King in the soft rock of "Stand And Fight". As ever, Maurice recorded and produced this album entirely alone in his small home studio. It may not be a multimillion dollar production but it is good, honest music. Listen and enjoy.
