"Funk, hit me now! You don’t have to be black to be a funkateer! This Dutch band has been cooking up a storm in P-Funk territory for quite some time now, but maybe international distribution by the likes of the Dutch jazz, funk & soul label JJ Tracks, might earn them a place on the international scene, normally reserved for Afro-American bands. Core member and leader is space bassist and Bootsy freak Dodge, who’s bass playing is similar to that liquid Bootsy sound. Heavy bass lines and on the one grooves are the goodies we’re getting with tons on this steaming session. And all this with no one else than JB’s trombonist Fred Wesley joining the band on two tunes (‘Fred’ and ‘Shake the cake’). Ain’t no party like a P-Funk party, because this is just real fun(k) to listen to. No deep lyrics, no heavy-handed raps, just plain butt-shaking grooves, loaded wah-wah guitar, some soulful lead vocals by Jewl and heavy keyboards supplemented by a thick layer of thumb-slapping bass and groove-in-da-pocket drums. Nice contribution by Brainpower on the deep old school ‘Turn It Up’. And the tight horn section only makes the fun bigger." (RM) "Serious party music in the mold of Kool & the Gang, Crown Heights Affair, Heatwave, Bootsy Collins. They even feature guest stars like Fred Wesley. Are you having a party at your crib anytime soon? Put this CD on and keep your friends dancin'." (Bob Davis SOUL-PATROL.COM)
