简介

"The Einaudi of the guitar" - 'Leisure Times' "Matthew's compositions are skilful, beguiling and captivating, and delight audiences where ever he plays" - 'Fairtrade Festival' I am a 19 year old classical guitarist and composer. Here are my two albums 'Breaking Free' and 'Reflections' which were both released in 2011. How I got into playing and composing for classical guitar I have been playing guitar for around eleven years but I was only introduced to the classical side about four years ago. When I was about fourteen I taught myself to play nothing but power chords and I would think I was so cool with my replica Gibson SG and my pedal board, annoying my neighbours with the speakers on full blast. However, after a few years my parents said enough is enough and decided to get me a teacher who taught me a new side to the guitar. I was expecting a rock and roll guitar teacher, until my mom got my spanish guitar out of the car (which I had barely touched). At first I was disappointed but I slowly became captivated by guitarists such as John Williams, Andres Segovia and Ana Vidovic who inspired me to learn pieces such as Asturias, Cavatina and Spanish Romance. It wasn't until two years later that I composed my first piece entitled 'Sollitude' (from the Reflections album). When composing my first album, my main inspirations were from Ludovico Einaudi, an Italian contemporary music composer and pianist. I was inspired by the concept of mixing the classical genre with a contemporary style whilst showing deep emotion. After releasing my first album, a newspaper called the 'Leisure Times' depicted me as “The Einaudi of the guitar” which I thought was pretty amazing. In my new album 'Breaking Free', my main objective is to express raw emotion, contrasting loud and passionate playing with a soft and delicate touch. Each track is very important to me in the sense that they all explore different emotions that I can relate to (apart from 'Circus', which is intended to be a fun contrast and is just me being daft). I hope you enjoy listening to me play it as much as I did performing it.
