Nuru, the first major single in collaboration with Tanzanian Hip Hop producer and emcee, Zavara Mponjika aka Rhymson, is an afro-futuristic instant vintage snapshot of Nasambu’s emerging AfroSoul/R&B sound fused with the essence of Kenya and California, and mixed with the classic beats reminiscent of the early days of hip hop. Nuru, which means “Light” in Swahili, is laden with mystical lyrical innuendos that point to the resonating theme, “Not all that glitters is gold.” Nasambu’s soulful melodies bring forth the energy of warm summer nights cruising with friends on the boulevard. The soon-to-be-released Nuru music video, shot in the heart of South Central LA, emits a sharp contrast to the song’s theme with crisp, fast-moving visuals that capture an iconic afternoon of classic and authentic California vibes.
