简介

"It burns going down, but only for awhile, Don't you believe a thing you've heard, it'll all go down in style" Rule of Three 1. Drink Screech 2. Have Pride in Newfoundland... 3. And tomorrow there'll be stories The Roads We Choose (Music & Lyrics, P. Gillespie) In today’s highly mobile society people often leave their home communities in search of what they perceive to be a better life only to realize later that they have given up their “sense of place” and wish they could somehow get back “home” again. Free To Be a Change’d Man (The Day Parole Song) (Music A. Vanhorn; Lyrics A. Vanhorn, P. Gillespie) A humorous look at “Day Parole” and our Justice System. While some people do make changes, there are some “things” that may never change. Pub Night (Music & Lyrics, P. Gillespie) One eventful, but not uncommon, night that occurred while we were playing in one of the local pubs. The more bars and pubs you play the more you realize that all musicians must have nights like this. I Love Hockey (Music & Lyrics, A. Vanhorn) A love song about Hockey - - need more be said? Irish Roots is joined by Douglas Gifford on Dobro Guitar for this tune. Funny How Life Goes (Music & Lyrics, P. Gillespie) The only thing predictable about life is that it is unpredictable. The spark for this song came from observations of Mary coping with raising two daughters and listening to her stories about their “adventures” as they tested the limits during the end of their high school years eventually launching out into the world as young independent adults. A Temperance Song (Music A. Vanhorn; Lyrics A. Vanhorn, P. Gillespie) About the prohibition era in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s which had created endless opportunities for those undeterred by the law to grow rich. It was a time ripe with stories of “heroes” on both sides of the struggle. Built musically around “The Temperance Reel” this song provides a glimpse into a different era that we can only relate to through movies, stories and song. Irish Roots is joined by Brian Flynn on Fiddle and Vocals for this tune. Livin’ Right (Music & Lyrics, P. Gillespie) We are constantly bombarded by popular concepts of how we should all be “living right”, whatever that means, in order to live longer, healthier and supposedly happier lives. When some people realize the change in lifestyle they might require, they instead choose to stick with their bad habits. The Pride of Newfoundland (Music A. Vanhorn; Lyrics A. Vanhorn, P. Gillespie) A screech was the sound heard miles away when a sailor first tasted this rum having first arrived on the shores of NFLD from Jamaica. Like a baptism by fire a “Screech-in” is the closest thing to becoming an honorary Newfoundlander for those of us not lucky enough to be born as such. Take a shot, and kiss the fish, and join in this very tradition! Where My Feet Go (Music & Lyrics, A. Vanhorn) A whimsical song with a bit of a gospel and bluegrass feel to it that takes a humorous look at the blind devotion of those committed to the idea of one life, one love. Closing Time (Music & Lyrics, P. Gillespie) About the humorous banter that occurs when bar staff encourage patrons to finish up that last drink (quickly) and go home; and the customers, who want nothing more than to take their time enjoying that very same drink, preferring that the bar staff “bugger off” and leave them to it.
