Album Notes 'Eagles Aloft' the latest album from Sydney based singer/song writer Steve McNaughton, represents a distinct shift towards the country music genre, compared to his three earlier Albums, yet still contains the great melodies and hooks of the earlier material. Filled with radio friendly songs, some great country instrumentation and driven by some powerful vocal backing, his music is somewhat unique. There is a definite West Coast element but with more of a country rock edge to it. The opening track ‘Cross Country' is a sweet mid tempo song about losing a loved one who has really moved on and then trying to find them much later. This track has been well received in Nashville with several artists considering covering it. 'One more shot' sees a couple living off their wits and still trying to pull in a fortune with one last roll of the dice. 'Running dream' is still a country style song but with an interesting ethereal/ fantasy effect from Jenny Marie Lang's additional vocal. 'When you've got it good’ has real catchy chorus and is a timely reminder to anyone who may be cruising in their relationship. A faithful cover version of the Eagles 'One of these nights' is thrown in for good measure and other tracks of note include 'Everybody needs love' and 'The Navigator'. The former is more of a catchy Motown song than Country , whist 'The Navigator' is reminiscent of Dire Straights and is superbly produced; so much so that if you closed your eyes, as this final track finishes, you would swear that you were heading out into the wide blue yonder or even into space. All in all an excellent album, on the cutting edge of Country with a touch of Americana which should expect to gain favourable reviews from the Music Magazines! Steve's voice is warm and beautifully earthy and the songs are distinctive, while still belonging to the over arching connection with the Eagles and that theme of a connection between what's gong on here on the earth and what's going on up there in the sky.... "Floating", "The Navigator" on one hand and the Eagles song, "Cross Country", "Changing lanes" and that real catchy beauty "Everybody Needs Love", on the other. It was a real pleasure to listen to...a consistent sound with variety in the songs. (Comments from Peter Lindwall, 12/12/2013) Australian artist Steve McNaughton has earned high praise as one of Sydney’s best contemporary rock songwriters, whilst achieving independent chart success and much overseas airplay. His music varies from solid radio friendly hooks’ to passionate, upfront and personal material. He now takes his music beyond soft rock and the West Coast sound to Americana and Contemporary Country, with the release of his fourth Album 'Eagles Aloft'. ************ All in all an excellent album on the cutting edge of Country which would be expected to gain favourable reviews from the Music Magazines
