Daughter of blues musician Top Topham, Léanie Kaleido followed in his musical path but showcases a songwriting style all of her own. Her songs range from supremely mellow and wistful, to clever, quirky and dare one say it, slightly warped. On her début album ‘Karamelién’, laid-back, melodic songs that unashamedly embrace love and melancholia cleverly hide surprise tongue-in-cheek ditties peppered with acidic observations about bimbos and breast implants, folksy tunes about murderous witches and dark piano refrains touching upon bathroom-based torture. This and its follow up, ‘Quicksands & Shadows’, still quirky but smoother in style, have both been given national & international airtime and great reviews. Bluesbunny Music Reviews called it “quintessentially English”, adding: "...songs cleverly utilising understatement as a kind of inverse dramatic effect, she easily charms her way into your heart.... Songs like 'Firefly' or the title track 'Quicksands & Shadows' are classic Kaleido metaphorical re-imaginations of finding yourself lost in the maelstrom of intimacy... A performer of class.” Léanie has performed in London, the South East and Europe, has had songs played on radio stations across the world, including the USA, but her proudest moment so far was she says, 'having my funny little Christmas ditty 'Cardboard Christmas' aired on BBC6 Music, my absolutely favourite radio station'.
