Hailing from the southside of Chicago, Funkedope's brand of music has been forged over decades by the legends of classic Soul, the intense passion and drive of House, and the emotion and sincerity of Jazz. On his debut EP "Everything in Context", listeners will experience the full range of these influences as well as a gathering of some of the hottest talent the city has to offer. Already a favorite in clubs on the southside, "By Step" captures your attention with it's lighthearted and pleasantly addictive dance tune that will keep you singing the hook and dancing long after the song is off. "Crown" is a more thought provoking tune with a driving beat that almost works in contrast to the lyrics, but by the end of the song the marriage is set with the guitar as the ring that binds it all together. And then there is "Darkness". This tune is the ride at the amusement park with the longest line. Just turn it up load and hold on. All in all, it is a tremendous accomplishment from the first time artist and producer Funkedope. One that should be remembered for quite some time. Those that know me well, know that this has been in the works for decades. "About time" is a common response. For those who are unfamiliar, let me explain. We began in High School making beats in the basement. Our goal was to become the next "Fingers, Inc". Who...you may ask? Look him up, well worth it. House Music dominated our early creative energies. Jahi, Brother Deep and myself spent countless hours brainstorming, experimenting and mastering our own unique creative process. Jam sessions in the basement became commonplace. Some of the fondest memories I have to this day come from those long hours in smokey basements playing music loud. I Fell in love with Jazz in college. It's intimacy, freedom and depth of talent and character captivated me. I knew then that if I ever pursued my dream in music, Jazz would be apart of it. Have you ever seen good Chicago steppers dance? If you have then you know it is the coolest dance moves out. But they can't step to every song, only certain songs hit that groove just right. And if it's right, it can be magic. This is what motivates me, now. I want to hit that groove. By incorporating elements from House and Jazz, my goal is to create a unique dance experience for hard core steppers and the casual cocktail sippin' toe tappers, alike.
