简介
Ican Ican't is the latest musical project by Dermot O'Leary, the singer-songwriter and frontman for now-defunct Dublin band Alanalda. Recorded at various stages during 2010 and 2011 in the farmhouse in which he lives in County Kilkenny this collection is his first ever album release. Using Garageband and free-to-use drum loops downloaded from various free-loop websites the songs are all fully written, arranged and performed by Dermot himself. Lyrically they mostly deal with the human condition but there are also stories about peeping tom characters and recycling. Two of the songs were directly inspired by TV and Film. "Your Move" was influenced by one of Krzysztof Kieslowski's 'Dekalog' series of short films in which a young postal worker develops an infatuation for a woman whose apartment is directly across from his and he spies on her. "Backyard (We Don't Need Everything)" was inspired by a scene in the HBO series 'Six Feet Under' where the Fisher family have a bonfire in their backyard burning what they haven't managed to sell in a yard sale. All songs written, arranged and performed by Dermot O'Leary. Drum loops from Garageband, Bandmates, ProTools, PowerFX and Beathive. Track 10 Goodbye Cruel World uses wave/sea sounds from freesound.org: waves.wav by inchadney "a certain immediacy to this record’s melodies but a subtlety to the craft that helps it creep its way under the listeners skin and into their memory." "a very talented songwriter at the helm who’s also been blessed with a uniquely plaintive voice that captivates as well as it conveys." "an incredible record that deserves to be heard and deserves a spot in any indie music lover’s collection." - Playground Misnomer "an absolute must on anyone’s spring/summer playlist." - Music That Isn't Bad "easy-going melodies and guitar playing, they sound familiar without recalling any other artist in particular." - One In Ten Words
