The Year Of The Stat was originally uploaded to Myspace waaay back in 2009 under the name Dermostat following the disbanding of my old band, Alanalda. The songs weren't particularly well recorded and a few of them had been hanging around for years so I didn't bother doing anything else with them as I just wanted to move on with the Ican Ican't project. At the back of my mind however, I knew that these songs were good songs and deserved to be heard. So earlier this year I decided to clean them up a bit, re-record some parts and give them a remix and remaster as best I could. Now that I feel I can go no further with the recordings it's time to release the album properly. The title “The Year Of The Stat” basically refers to the year or so after the break-up of Alanalda when I wrote and recorded at home. Some of the tunes, such as Draw The Line, Shortcut Thru The Park and Sucked My Will To Live, were ones that I had played live with Alanalda but we had never gotten around to recording. A few more, such as Comfort Food, Little Wings, Business Is Business and Winter Of Discontent, I wrote during the year and just recorded as I went along. The last song that was included, We Make Our Own, was actually written for another band that I was playing in called The Evening Watch. We jammed it for a while but never really went anywhere with it so I claimed it back and have included it here. Anyhoo, after I had googled “Dermostat” and had discovered that it was also some form of skin treatment, I decided I'd probably be best just releasing this collection under the name Ican Ican't.
