This is a ballad I wrote about a homeless man writing poetry for change down near the Hollywood Bowl in southern California. He was an interesting guy and had gone from rags to riches and had stories to share about it all. For a little change in his coffee can he'd quickly start writing you a poem and there are bits and pieces from the poem he wrote for me in this song, from cardboard condo's too old cars with bondo and strangers who quickly walk by, I thanked him for his rhymes with nickles and dimes, then he walked to another and said, Mr. you may not know it, but I am a poet and for a token I'll write you a rhyme, he said my pockets are bare, so please show you care and soon he wrote me these lines...
