This is a song I wrote back in the early 90's when I was facing a layoff from my job of 15 years. It was definitely a time of much uncertainty and anxiety's as I was raising a family and had all the typical middle class family bills and the economy was still in the dumps from the previous recession, especially in the aerospace industry. I had to relocate to save my tenure with the company and to pretty much keep doing what I was qualified to do for so many years, this was an easy choice for me and I followed the realignment steps and procedures. I ended up getting promoted in the whole process, however my commute to work went from 15 miles one way to 75 miles. I held on for another 10 years and then was offered an early retirement as I had the magic numbers 25 years any age, although there were penalties to be realized, but they had little affect on my wife and i as we were already living a humble life and this was very manageable. So here we are now almost 9 years later and we're both still waking every morning and sailing to our own destinations daily, no one to answer to but ourselves. I've always said I'd gratefully give up more money to have more time and this song and others is a testament to my creative ambitions and my simple needs in life. Life is good!
