简介

Terry Mullan专辑介绍:by Joshua GlazerOpening with some hysterical scratching over a Scooby-Doo sample, Terry Mullan's second mix CD promises to be a lot of fun. And the veteran Midwest rave DJ doesn't disappoint. The first half of the mix is a flurry of jackin' acid cuts, centered around the endless minimal bleep of DBX's "Phreak," which comes in and out of the mix no fewer than six times in the first 20 minutes. But rather than sounding redundant, this rather original mixing method weaves a common thread between equally beating cuts like "Mystery" by Pierre's Fantasy Club and DJ Puff's "Work This M.F.," both of which appear twice in the sorta Megamix. Ironically, while the hyper quick mixing is clearly the result of studio precision, this disc represents the Mullan live experience far better than his previous Building Blocks mix CD and perhaps even better then his legendary New School Fusion mix tape series. The reason for this comes in the second, housier, half of the disc. While Mullan is best known for playing hopped-up acid and thumping house hits, he was always certain to throw in one or two of the best house cuts that you never heard before and would be lucky to hear again -- massive thumpers that shock the warehouse and ring in your ears for days. The NYC Peach Boys' "Stay With Me" is just such a track, with soaring vocals and a kick drum so round and deep you can't imagine that there are enough bass bins to do it justice. For anyone who ever did some straight-up illegal warehouse raving, this CD by one of the era's finest will take you back with ease.
