And in reflecting the changes in dance music culture from mid-to-late 90's the jackin' acid that was previously Mullan's forte is gone. In its place is non-stop heart-rate increasing house sluggers meant to pump the crowd with maximum funk. This all-out drive starts from the beginning with Mullan throwing down some signature scratches over Paul Johnson's "It's A Love Thing". But after this introductory manipulation, Mullan the DJ becomes transparent as throbbing techno bumpers like Puente Latino's "Take You There" and J Lukas' wild-pitch "Brilliant Waters" run full steam into looping disco from DJ Sneak and Conga Squad.Mullan never yield until the final set of tunes featuring the minimal rumble of asket's "Wyka Man" which leads into some classic house by Gene Farris and Ramsey & Co.. Even then, the tempo remains over the speed limit. Given Mullan's previous dominance as a DJ who could wow crowds with slaying acid dexterity and his uncanny ability to toss in one or two lost favorite, this mix feels extremely typical and disappointing. One might say that Mullan was merely keeping with the times, but satisfying the youngest crop of ravers doesn't make for the sort of timeless groove he has shown himself capable of achieving. The fact that several of these tracks are duplicates of cuts appearing on Mullan's close friend DJ Dan's mix CD release three weeks earlier proves that Mullan was probably less than inspired while assembling this disc.
