Critic François Couture wrote: "A new record from Nico Huijbregts, as a chamber music composer rather than as a pianist. The album is book-ended by very strong solo pieces: “Katatatatonie” for clarinet (Tui Clark) and “Hoe alles oplost” for violin (Kees Hilhorst). The latter, 15 minutes long, provides the album’s highlight; it is a gorgeous run through the Romantic era seen from a modernist’s point of view. There is also a string quartet (performed by the Alauda Quartet) that’s both seriously complex and ridiculously kitsch, as announced by its title: “Only you” (yes, that song) – I love it. A flute/harpsichord duet and a quintet with very strange instrumentation (blockflute, pan flute, viola, accordion, percussion) round up the album. I’m still disappointed that Huijbregts doesn’t play a single note throughout, but he proves to be a first-rate composer."
