"The Minnesota Portraits and other music by Carl Schroeder" is a collection of instrumental music inspired by America's history and scenery, written by composer Carl Schroeder and performed by the Minnesota Symphonic Winds, St. Olaf Band, St. Olaf Orchestra, Minnesota Youth Symphonies and other ensembles. Highlights include the concert band fanfare "Agora," "The Minnesota Portraits," a concert band suite inspired by Minnesota history and landmarks, the orchestral elegy "Christine's Lullaby," and three solo piano works performed by the composer. ABOUT THE COMPOSER Composer Carl Schroeder of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a graduate of St. Olaf College, writes music for concert band, orchestra, choir, chamber ensembles and piano that is often inspired by American history and current events. His large ensemble music has been performed by more than 25 concert bands, orchestras and choirs in North America and Europe, including the Air Force Band of Mid-America and Ukraine's Chamber Choir Kyiv. He has received commissions from numerous ensembles and individuals, and four CDs of his music have been released.
