简介
by Jack RabidGet ready for some world-weary acoustic dreams, the sweet, sad, folkish whisper of plucked guitar strings, and a frowning, resigned vocal, like a man having a quiet afternoon drink on his own, reflecting as the world goes to hell without him. Window dressings of other instruments come calling, such as the cello on the opening "Morning Is the End of the Day" and "Oh Mary," and even some restless harmonica on the latter. The formula doesn't alter through the 74 minutes this CD runs, so much as bends and sways, as unhurried as a stick floating down a summer stream, even on the quiet cover of the Silos' "The Only Story I Tell" (from 1990's The Silos). The dense air of a lazy Sunday afternoon (more than the "3 A.M." of the title) descends like listlessness after a big meal, but it's pretty, shiny, and pensive just the same. Rather lovely, at that.
