The sophomore solo release from the prolific producer is a massive collection of instrumentals that bend and cross genres and styles, cementing clktrx's reputation as one of the most hungry and influential artists in the industry, period. A triple album with over 3 1/2 hours of music across nearly 50 tracks, clktrx exceeds expectations, and continues to defy industry standards. The instrumentals showcased here are understated, yet anthemic; rowdy, but refined. clktrx isn't so much a chameleon, mixing warped vocal loops, Asian inspired woodwinds, and thumping beats, as he is a lyricist and MC's dream, creating canvases that could stand on their own and compete with the biggest DJs in the game. He is at his best when he creates cinematic soundtracks complete with string-infused story lines, composing character arcs that build into heart wrenching, soul stirring climaxes. A three volume release is more than most producers would release in a year, but 2017 has already been blessed with several clktrx productions; and the producer has promised there is plenty more to come. The clktrx produced "Pleasure & Pain, " a full length LP by the label's first artist, Gus Rouse, was released in March, as was "Encore," a masterfully written song the producer chose to keep for himself and release as a single. Also released in March, was the debut LP of Portland native Le'var Howard, on which clktrx applied his production, song writing, or vocals on no less than 10 tracks. The namesake labels latest artist, Kosalso, is slated to release an LP later this year, but March saw the release of 2 clktrx produced singles by the cerebral Long Beach artist. The Instrumentals:Volumes 1,2 & 3, then, is a challenge to artists, song writers and MCs. "Do your worst," as Alexandre Dumas famously wrote in Count of Monte Cristo, "For I will do mine." Here, clktrx musically blesses the listener and drops the mic: your turn, world.
