ReverbCentral.com reviewer disc jockey Phil Dirt rated this CD 5 STARS out of 5 and wrote: "Surf transmuted through gigantic metallic darkness...Lots of very interesting and engaging tracks...It grows on you...Quite amazing...Unbalanced in the most creative way...Big thunder and energy like the Lone Ranger only wished for...A giant among strange surf epics...It makes Alfred Hitchcock squirm...Very intense...Thoroughly delightful." They are all right, there is some of each. We call it "Rockabilly Surf." Rock-n-Roll Guitar fills the stage when the Insanitizers play. You won't wait for anything as the heavy beat music launches you to the stars, on a racing cycle, to a haunted place, into the waves, on a flamenco strut, or within the mind of a puppet that has turned the tables. The guitar is the voice. These songs could not be vocals. Although Conrad was taught jazzy improvisation he applied the concepts to heavy-beat fast rock-n-roll with plenty of variation within each song. His day job is research psychiatrist, which is why his songs penetrate your mind. He has written piles of articles and books, now he writes songs for guitars. Conrad has lived in most areas of the USA. His favorite recording guitars use pickups salvaged from a 1960s Lafayette (Japanese) guitar or out-of-phase humbuckers, because these give a vitality and animation to the tone. Mike grew up in Chicago and has lived in Wisconsin and Illinois. He has several sticks for every drum, and lots of drums. He comes from a family of musicians. His day job, and often his night job, is senior resident in medicine and psychiatry. He used to play with Spongeworthy, but they graduated. He loves new ways to play heavy beats, his approaches are original. Together we are the Surf Insanitizers. You may hear voices, horn sections, a big band, organs, or birds chirping but, trust us, they are guitars and drums. Our music is frenetic, intense, and challenging to play. Each note is individually hand-picked, there are no short-cut fingertaps or hammer-ons, the speed is real. Our song "Head-Spin" wears down a guitar pick by 1/2" with a single playing. "Flamenco Fret" is fingerpicked in places for appropriate Flamenco method, and "Sugarplum" is partially fingerpicked for arpeggio speed. Conrad Swartz wrote these songs and played them on guitars and bass guitar to represent the energy of his feelings. Mike Martin played percussion live with Conrad's lead, and then other tracks were layered. Mike records with Roland V-drums. Conrad engineered.
