简介
BluJazz Records announces the release of pianist and composer Jon Gold’s new album of 12 original compositions entitled “Bossa of Possibility”. Legendary saxophonist Phil Woods says this about “Bossa of Possibility”: "I first heard Brazilian music in 1956 when I was with the Dizzy Gillespie big band. As soon as we landed the local cats turned us on to this incredible music - and the sound is still indelibly inscribed on what's left of my addled be-bop brain. Jon has captured the depth of this genre on this work. I felt much the same passion as I felt back then when first listened to it. Bravo!" This album is deeply influenced by Jon’s experience in jazz, Latin and classical music and features the playing of the world-renowned musicians including: Dave Liebman (sax): Considered one of the greatest living saxophonists, Dave is the recipient of the National Endowment of the Arts Masters of Jazz Award (2011). Howard Levy (harmonica): Grammy Award winning Levy, is a founding member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. His work on the diatonic (blues) harp is unique and legendary and has brought him world-wide attention. His playing has graced the recordings of a wide-range of musicians from Bobby McFerrin to Paul Simon to Dolly Parton. Harvie S (bass): In the highly competitive New York City jazz scene, Harvie is on the top of everyone’s list. His playing as a leader has brought global attention and his playing has graced the CD’s and live performance of hundreds of the world’s best-known jazz musicians. His CD last year with Kenny Barron topped the jazz charts for over five months. Tom “Bones” Malone (horns): Currently most visible as a member of the CBS Orchestra (led by Paul Shaffer), Tom’s film, TV and music resume reads like a Who’s-who of jazz, rock, pop and latin music. As a member of Blood Sweat and Tears, The Band, SNL Band and musical director for the Blues Brothers, his music has been heard by millions. Jon Irabagon (sax): Jon is one the current “Young Lions” of the saxophone -- Winner of the 2008 Thelonius Monk Competition and is currently recording for Concord Records. ABOUT JON GOLD (see www. jongold.com for more details) Jon is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area but has also lived in Rio de Janeiro where he had the opportunity to meet and work with legendary musicians such as A.C. Jobim and Hermeto Pascoal. Jon also holds a Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the University of California (Santa Cruz). His best-known scientific achievement is the first melting of a diamond -- which occurred by accident when Jon was a graduate student at Cornell University. This recording on BluJazz is his third as leader. His first is “Aqua Regia” on Pacific Street Jazz and features the legendary percussionist Airto Moreira. His previous CD of 2010 “Brazil Confidential” on ZOHO Music was hailed as a “landmark album” by All About Jazz. Jon currently lives near New York City. THE COMPOSITIONS The all original music in this set seamlessly weave together Jon’s interests in jazz, Brazilian and classical music. There is a wide-variety of sounds and textures. Jon has stated that his principal goal of his compositions is to “make music that is both accessible and entertaining to the casual listener while providing pause for contemplation for those who choose to think about the more technical elements”. There are varied combinations of instrumentation ranging from piano and sax duos to full bands with chamber orchestra. The variety of moods and styles again is a reflection in Jon’s varied interests and his belief in the concept of making an “album” – that is a collection of ideas, themes and moods that truthfully reflect our day-to-day experiences. The CD includes notes of Jon’s commentaries on the tracks which give insight into the tunes’ origins and back-stories.
