简介

A Jedi saunters up to the bar at the Pub at the End of the Universe. "Gimme a Romulan Ale." "I'm sorry," the Publican replies, "That's still illegal." "What?! It's been 52 million years and the universe is about to explode. Surely, you can serve it NOW?!" "I'm sorry, Sir," he replies apologetically, "And please don't call me Shirlely." "All right, I'll take a mudder's milk, Monahan's, please". What are Sci Fi Drinking Songs? Drinking can be found throughout the universe from Earth to Praxis, from Canton to Skaro. Come on, you know Davros was drinking something when he came up with the Daleks. In fact, I think The Doctor was there drinking with him. What's just as prevalent as drinking in the galaxy? Drinking songs. In fact, Sci Fi Drinking Songs aren't just about drinking. They're fun songs that you and I can sing along to while we're in cars traveling to a Sci Fi Convention or Renaissance Festival. They're songs we put on in the background while playing Dungeons & Dragons or Magic:The Gathering. Sci Fi Drinking Songs are fun songs designed to make us laugh, cry, smile, and above all SING! That's the entire premise behind my latest CD--Sci Fi Drinking Songs. WHO AM I? My name is Marc Gunn. There are some who call me... Tim... No, I mean, The Celtfather. I am a Celtic Geek musician. That means, I play Celtic music with a Sci Fi geeky twist. You'll hear songs about Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, Muppets, Firefly, Zombies and Sesame Street. Again, all done with Celtic feel. Imagine Tommy Makem or The Clancy Brothers singing songs about science fiction topics and you'll get a decent idea of what I'm doing here. My Celtic geek journey began with my old band, Brobdingnagian Bards. I found a song on MP3.com called "Jedi Drinking Song". We learned it and debuted the song at DragonCon in 2003. It was HUGE hit when we released it on our CD Brobdingnagian Fairy Tales. So we started singing other Celtic geek songs. When the band broke up in 2008, I started naming my shows at conventions. I thought "Sci Fi Drinking Songs" sounded much cooler than just "Marc Gunn". Lo and behold, others did too! Con-goers came out in droves to see me perform. I played Celtic Geek songs from my first two Filk albums Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers and What Color Is Your Dragon?. Folks laugh, smiled, and sang along. WAIT! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT FILK IS? It's like Sci Fi Folk music, parodies as well as lyrics based on science fiction themes. It's pretty much at the core of what I've been playing since day one of the Brobdingnagian Bards. Any-who, the filk songs were loved. I added more to my repertoire over the ensuing years. I covered songs like "Close Your Eyes (There are demons in your Dreams)" by Daniel Glasser. I also wrote songs like "Monahan's Mudder's MIlk", "A Drop of Vulcan Blood", and "Kilted For Your Pleasure" Those became some of my most-loved songs. So I wrote more. I found more. In one case, I even had my friend Tom Rockwell, aka Devo Spice write me a song. THE BIRTH OF DOCTOR OF GALLIFREY One of the most-anticipated songs from Sci Fi Drinking Songs is a song called "Doctor of Gallifrey." It all began at I-Con Science Fiction Convention on Long Island. I finished one of my "Sci Fi Drinking Songs" shows. Afterward, a smiling fan came up to me and said, "Hey, do you know that song that Emerald Rose sings, 'Donald MacGillavry'". "Yeah, I know that song," I responded. "I have three words for you. Doctor. Of. Gallifrey." I LOVED the idea. Unfortunately, my Doctor Who lore was limited to the new series starting with Christopher Eccleston. Hmmm... Who do I know who is a HUGE Doctor Who fan that could write.... DEVO SPICE! In fact, Devo Spice is such a huge fan, he just released an entire awesome album of Doctor Who songs called "I Am The Doctor". It's brilliant. Get it! Devo wrote the lyrics. I started playing the song. It was a certified hit. YES! THIS ALBUM WAS A KICKSTARTER SENSATION When I first started talking about Sci Fi Drinking Songs people got excited. I played shows with that title at several science fiction conventions. The response was incredible. So much so that I did two kickstarters for it. I raised over $8000 for the final production. I'm incredibly blessed and thank to all my amazing fans out there who helped turned this bizarre album idea into the huge success it is. Thank you! FINAL NOTES My goal isn't to cover the entire sci fi universe. It's just to have fun sharing some of the songs that I love which fit into that whole Sci Fi Drinking Song theme: fun, sing-along songs! It's what makes you happy! I hope you enjoy. Slainte! Marc Gunn, The Celtfather
