简介
Pies in the Sky Kris Brown is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and music educator based in the live music capitol of the world: Austin, Texas. He has left very few musical stones unturned; In fact, he has made one of the most compelling studies of American music since Ry Cooder, from guitar with funk legend Cyril Neville to bass with TX powerhouse Charlie Robison, producing tracks for reggae superstar General Smiley and folk darling Ruthie Foster. Kris has slow cooked all of these musical experiences together into an eclectic yet cohesive style of acid folk and is currently mobilizing to tour behind his new release "Pies in the Sky," after having spent the last year splitting duties between touring behind his last release “Looking for my Zero" and playing guitar with rising indie folk outfit Birds of Chicago. Whitey on the Moon, Kris’s trio, specializes in the quieter part of the spectrum and seeks a freer approach to accompaniment while keeping the music firmly song based, in the spirit of Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks or Joni Mitchell’s Mingus record. Kris has a formidable discography including 7 releases as an artist as well as over 50 credits as a session player. He is a known mainstay in the Austin scene on guitar, bass, dobro, non-pedal steel, upright bass, and vocals. Kris has played several hundred gigs as a jazz guitarist and performed with Fred Hersch, Frank Lowe, and Trombone Shorty. As a soul/funk guitarist he has worked with Reggie Calloway (Midnight Star), Cyril Neville (Meters, Neville Brothers), War, Tiger “Don Juan” Martin (James Brown), and reggae kingpin Everton Blender. In the realm of country music, Kris spent 4 years touring the country playing Tele and Dobro with Shelley King upon first relocating to Austin 13 years ago, and more recently spent a year playing bass with [former Dixie Chic spouse] Charlie Robison. Kris is endorsed by RKS Guitars. Kris is currently working on a series of guitar instruction books, learning French, and writing songs. He is also an avid organic gardener, cook, runner, and enjoyer of great food, records, books, and people
