简介
This is a compilation of songs over the last two and a half years, mainly when I was 17 and 18 years old. I’ve been playing piano since I was four, self-taught up to age nine then got lessons, and wrote my first song when I was 11. I was a bit of a weird kid (still am). I seemed always drawn to things that allowed me to be an individual. It always stemmed from creative outlets — like drawings, poems or songs. I never liked math and science much because it’s so black and white. Your answer is either right or wrong. I discovered art, music and writing had thousands of different shades of gray in an otherwise black and white world. There was no solid ‘right’ or ‘wrong.’ I realized that there’s more to learning than what you get out of right or wrong answers. The more I did my own thing, kids started to look at me differently. They’d notice me for the pictures that I drew and the songs that I wrote, and that was the best feeling in the world. I broke away from the norm, and since, I’ve never looked back. Expressing myself is the entire purpose of being an artist. Making a point, sharing opinions, shaking sense, primping feelings — it’s all part of it. The instruments paint the emotions and the lyrics paint the story. Some Press Highlight Excerpts: "...there’s a lot of people with a dream and no music yet, and it’s even better when you realise Megan has a knack for song writing..." Rob Wilde - Features Editor - SUPAJAM “Anyone who's familiar with Ottawa's Megan Landry knows she can pull off ethereal pop really well, but this tune also showcases an up tempo side outside of that niche. This song is from her upcoming album called Stills. Watch for it soon.” Adam Carter - CBC Radio ““Wallpaper” by Megan Landry is a dark, moody and ambient music video filled with deep meanings and powerful imagery.” FDRMX - FDRMX “Musically, Ottawa's Megan Landry is playing at a level far beyond her years — but thematically, she's singing about an 18-year-old's firsthand experiences. This song is about her first year of college, and it's really rare to find someone who can so eloquently sum up those experiences while living them.” Adam Carter - CBC News “Those of you who read my reviews and follow my podcasts know that I am not a fan of genre. She spins herself as alternative. While that may be the best genre for her, I feel she does and excellent job of blending styles. I don’t consider all of her work “alternative”. She does some material I would call blues, pop, etc. The important point is that her work is varied in a great way. Her songs do not all sound the same.” John “Lumpy” Lemke - Indienation.fm “Meet Megan Landry. Some magazines already hail the 17 year old Canadian artist as the next Lorde, and there’s certainly an aura of upcoming success around her. ... / ... It seems like this teenage girl put all the puzzle pieces for a successful music career into place…” BKR - Brooklyn Radio “'The Ghost', a beautiful and captivating song of broken love highlights Megan's effortless talent and soothing voice. Speaking of the song and it's storyline, Megan tells BEAT100 "my raw intentions were basically those of a vulnerable lover; somebody with pure faith and pure innocence who exhibits the kind of unconditional love that only somebody who has never been heartbroken has experienced." With a storyline of affectionate friendship that turns to love and loss, 'The Ghost' tells a tale that is relatable to many people and highlights Megan's maturity when it comes to songwriting.” Amy Louise Reid - Beat100 Press “Do you remember yourself at 17? Can you remember your talents, dreams, or even that teenage angst you felt? I certainly do, and if I was even a smidgen as talented as our next FeminINDIE artist currently is I would consider myself lucky. Megan Landry, Canadian artist and only 17 years old has been playing piano since the age of 4 and writing since the age of 11. She is currently in her last year of high school, and along with the usual array of homework Landry is creating music and working two part-time jobs.” Kerriann Curtis - wordkrapht “Wallpaper, released with lots of buzz near the end of last year, is notable for its arresting lyrics, social commentary and provocative video. Megan describes that particular song as one she wrote while going through a rough patch in life. Naturally, she directed the edgy video, featuring child models styled to represent society’s broken people. One of them, bloodied, is pointing a gun; another is drinking from a beer bottle; yet another, a little girl, is holding a baby (doll) and smoking.” Emily Hutton - Ottawa Family Living “Haunting vocals, combined with her thought provoking lyrics and some disturbing imagery, come together in a beautiful display of artistry. [about 'wallpaper']” Scott Martin - SPOTLIGHT OTTAWA “Megan Landry has a huge career in front of her and I look forward to following it each step of the way. I was beyond impressed, I was inspired.” Rebecca Hosking - SKOPE “Her stories are inspired by her experiences as a young person, as well as by social concerns that resonate at any age.” Kirk Ramdath - Wax Poetry and Art “You know when a song starts playing and you immediately have to stop whatever it is that you’re doing so that you can devote one hundred percent of your attention to the auditory masterpiece gracing your ears? That’s exactly what happened to me the first time I heard one of Megan Landry’s original songs (namely Pretty Faces, embedded below). Her voice sounds like it was taken right out of a gramophone from a classy 1920’s hotel. Let her lush voice gently caress your ears, while her luxurious melodies and imaginative lyrics sweep you into the depths of your imagination. She is a wonderful musical discovery and great addition to any library.” Robert Laurella - Confront Magazine “COW was very lucky to snag an interview with Megan Landry who took a moment to talk with us about being a YouTube artist, Frank Ocean, and making music videos." C.O.W. - Change Our World “Adults, Are You Listening? Megan Landry is a 17-year-old Ottawa artist. The young writer and poet makes her own videos and this one, her latest release, is pretty powerful. If you have three minutes—just three minutes—be sure to watch. It’s called Wallpaper and it will make you think.” Pam Dillon - Ottawa Family Living Magazine “...her songs are expressive and touching, while her stunning vocal drifts elegantly over the perfect harmonies. This week’s winning song, ‘Wallpaper’ explores the tragic incidents within our society that leave those suffering and those watching completely helpless. Megan’s lyrics express her inability to block out the tragic images from around the world, and yet she is unable to tackle the issues. Not only did Megan write the moving lyrics and music, she also created the striking video, which presents the ‘broken’ people of our society portrayed by children. The visual is shocking as the innocence of the young depicts adult issues, but it also confronts the image of these people that most would rather not consider by addressing their disturbing existence through the medium of children, forcing the audience to review their attitude towards other human beings ...” Kelly Donavan - Beat100 “Sixteen-year-old, Megan Landry, found herself at the top of the BEAT100 Originals Music Video Chart with her well-written original track, “Dancing In The Dark”. The talented teen was rewarded with a BEAT100 Gold Song Award, Gold Favourite Award and Silver Video Award for her incredible skills and effort that went into making her BEAT100 entry.” Kelly Donovan - PR Web “The outstanding track, reminiscent of a traditional waltz, but also presenting aspects of a pop ballad, features Megan on vocals and piano accompanied by a full ensemble, including a string orchestra blended with Italian guitar licks, as well as her own powerful vocal harmonies. ‘Crooked Lullaby’ has received over 33,000 views since its upload as well as a BEAT100 Gold Song and Most Viewed Award.” Dylan JK Vogt - Beat100 News Release “Megan Landry is a 15-year-old student, (great) singer, (excellent) songwriter, and (damn good) video producer. This track, Dancing With The Dark, was posted on YouTube in early 2o12 and has over 27,000 views so far. What can I say? If I was this talented at 15, I probably would have had fewer desk jobs.” Kevin McGowan - Ottawa Citizen
