简介
The Lotus Eaters is a 6-track mixed bag of experimental electronica, neoclassicism, punk and art-rock, from the co-founder of indie cabaret sensation The Jane Austen Argument. The Lotus Eaters takes its title from a scene within Homer’s masterpiece The Odyssey telling the tale of Odysseus’ men being seduced into temptation and apathy by narcotic lotus plants. Kingwell’s EP is laced with mythos and literary references, framed by a desire to overcome obstacles and temptation and avoid indifference and lethargy. Enlightenment and awakening are two of its fundamental themes, universal experiences that make Kingwell’s EP a relatable and scintillating listen. Influenced by icons as diverse as Kate Bush and Rachmaninoff, Jennifer Kingwell is one of the most exciting solo artists in Australia right now. Her music calls to mind contemporary artists Bat For Lashes and St Vincent, yet her performances are her own, bringing together performance art and music in a way that blurs the distinction between the two and makes her shows a thrilling pleasure for both the eyes and ears of her audience. --------------------------- Praise for Jennifer Kingwell: “Dark, dazzling… a formidable powerhouse. ★★★★★" - Herald Sun “The music is stunning… hauntingly beautiful. ★★★★★" – Broadway Baby "A dynamite voice" (T-Squat) "A performer of delicious contrasts; from virtuosic pianist to pluckin’ ukelele player, vocally ranging from silver tongued angel to gruff pirate."
