"Over the years, Ex-Voto, has appeared on numerous compilations as well as releasing the powerful, Anno Domini, in 1997 and, The Light of Day a few years ago. The newest album, Doloroso, is their tightest, most powerful piece of work ever though. The album is 17 songs strong and not one track sounds as if it was intended to be filler material. The album kicks off with, ‘Seven Sisters’, which is a sinister track with a lovely keyboard intro that leads into what one may consider a traditional gothic rock guitar/bass style, then the vocalists baritone vocals come into play. But things don’t slow down from there, the powerful, harsh but beautiful, ‘Spiritual Lies’, steamrolls through the speakers. ‘Spiritual Lies’ just jams and shows just how aggressive this band can get and just how powerful deathrock can be. One of the most interesting song titles on Doloroso has to be, ‘She Got it Big’. It sounds like a title for a hip hop song, but it’s a total rocker that gives the listener a sinister taste of what this band has to offer. This album just doesn’t seem to slow down for a minute; from song to song the pace stays steady and strong. ‘Where is Nikki Black?’ is one of the slower (but in no way ballad slow) tracks on the album and the lyrics are nice and gritty and real which is another great thing about this band. They’ve always had songs that are real, no cheesy metaphors. ‘Unspoken Words’ would be the slowest song on the album and its short and to the point, very moving. Doloroso puts emphasis on being heavy and it’s not gothic electro in any way whatsoever, the focus is on the guitar, the bass, the drums. The lyrics involve things that most people should be able to relate to and they come off very sincere which is rare in the world of music. Those who’ve been fans for awhile will love Doloroso but if someone new comes into the fold, if they like their music to be dark, heavy, sinister and real they’re going to fall for this album, no doubt about it. The best part about it is, this is a goth band that doesn’t sound like dozens of others, they’re very much their own thing." ookie spooky .com review Ex-Voto es uno de mis grupos favoritos.
