While sat in my car outside the studios of BBC radio, waiting to be interviewed, I watched the world go by. There were many funny, strange, curious and unique characters walking around the car park. Subconsciously I began thinking about their stories, building up a history - no doubt their real lives were much more interesting than my hypotheses. Nonetheless, it started me thinking about character. Until that point I had imagined scenarios, concepts and situations which would then be brought to life by certain characters. In the case of The Troubadour Ballads I brought in the characters first and built the stories around them. All of the characters are struggling in some way but they are all looking for a way out of their darkness.
