There are nine pieces of music on this cd. The first four are written and the last five ( The Five Elements ) are improvised. I’m a huge fan of composers Bach and Ponce, they wrote such inspirational music that truly complimented the guitar. These preludes have been a few of my favorite’s. Spanish Romance (unknown author) was recorded for my mother, it’s one of her favorites. Etude #26 is an on -going extension of my book, “25 Etudes For Contemporary Guitar “. I’ve also been greatly influenced by the sound of North and South Indian music and endlessly seduced and inspired to capture the pure vibe and calming sound of the northern alap and the raw mastery of the south within the guitar. Pieces 5-9 embrace a traditional harmonic structure in retaining the essence of the tonic but yet go beyond, searching further for the harmony and feelings to represent the five Buddhist elements. The act of creating the sound throughout these improvised themes is the expression of that influenced musician. MB
