Don’t be fooled by the soft alluring vocals on Yellow Piano. Songstress Calida is not trying to make you fall in love with her but instead letting you know she is better off without you. Opening track “Okay” dives right into this theme with lyrics “tired of little boys pretending to be men”. Like a true broken heart the album contemplates forgiveness as well but Calida seems to find her way to a peaceful and loving view of the past. The Yellow Piano does show different sides of Calida. “Fallin’ from Grace” seems to tackle the subject of a struggle with faith. Also included is a gem of a cover of the Disney classic “Someday My Prince Will Come” Calida performs a much darker version than the original with vocals that soar over her fluid classically influenced piano chops. Some people need music to save them or at least carry them through. Yellow Piano is a definitely a companion for such a soul.
