This album is released to accompany the BBC TV programme ‘Memoirs of a Sea Food Chef’ featuring ‘Chalky’s Song’ a tribute to Rick’s canine chum who over the various series became quite a star in his own right. For nearly 15 years Rick Stein has travelled thousands of miles with his Director David Pritchard together with a Denham Productions TV crew seeking out and bringing to our television screens the best of food while also investigating its sources and talking to the people who produce it. The Rick Stein shows are a rare quality mixture of cooking, travel and general interest coupled with also providing the viewer with an off the cuff informative window on global food ‘Sound Bites’ features the very best of the music from several unreleased tracks from Rick’s non-food programmes. ‘Betjeman and Me’ Rick Stein’s Story is one of three programmes produced and transmitted on BBC2 in the Summer of 2006 to mark the 100th Birthday of the late and much loved poet Sir John Betjeman. Rick’s contribution was a programme focused on Sir John’s life in Cornwall and his love of the county. In a similar vain ‘Rick Stein in du Maurier Country’, transmitted in the Spring of 2007, paid tribute to the late novelist, Daphne du Maurier, in her centenary year with Rick exploring her deep affection for Cornwall and the way in which the county has influenced her writing. By way of a complete change the TV Special ‘Rick Stein and the Japanese Ambassador’ was when in December 2006 Rick accepted the invitation to cook Sashimi for His Excellency the Japanese Ambassador at his London residence, but only after Rick travelled to Japan to gain insight into the quality and attention to detail that the Japanese place on their seafood.
