简介
This album is a musical diary inspired by people and events in my life, at least up until 2005 when it was first released. It's now available digitally for the very first time. Track 1 - Morning Star: Inspired by African drumming with my friend Parker Freeland, who joins on percussion. Written at 3 am on New Year's morning, 1997, I had been noticing the street lamps shining through the venetian blinds on my sliding glass door. The light beams fell across the floor and rose up to greet the piano keys. I thought, "what a great time to play some new music!" As I sat at the piano, my hands started recalling patterns similar to the ones I had been playing on djembe in the local drum circles with Parker. Track 2 - Highland Dance: Written for a student during a lesson. Celtic influences. Joined by my friend, violinist Tom Ginsberg, and Molly Bennett on Bodhran. Track 3 - The Door: Jesus stands and knocks... Featuring Lara Turner on cello. Track 4 - Shadow of Your Wings: A piano prayer for my daughter Abigail. For all the times I wasn't there, and for the future as you sail on your own, I continue to pray that God protects you. Track 5 - Wedding Song: Written for my cousin's wedding. Composed during a 'starving artist' phase, I could hardly afford a plane ticket to attend the wedding, so my family pitched in and bought my ticket. Moved by this, I wanted to give the bride and groom a very special gift. Recorded on this album is the instrumental version of the song. Here are the lyrics in case you were wondering: My love for you, is forever and a million years My love for you, is the kind designed by God, only you My love for you, seeks an answer for every heartache My love for you, finds a smile for every tear, only you And in the middle of better for worse We'll remember our vows this day For our love is not just a moment It's eternal in every way Track 6 - Waiting on the Wind: A moody piece inspired by a conversation with Parker Freeland and the music of Bonnie Raitt. Track 7 - We Are Blessed: Dedicated to my dear friend and executive producer, Robert Franz. We recorded the album in December, 1998, in the living room of his home in Boulder, Colorado, at the base of a sheer 300 foot cliff. Robert would often say, "We are blessed!" This became a catch phrase and the title to this duet with percussionist Parker Freeland. Track 8 - Moon Across the Bay: My moonlight piece; inspired by the sights, sounds, and smells of the Port of Algeciras, Spain, on the Bay of Gibraltar, on a lonely but inspiring full moonlit night in April, 1984. Track 9 - Donald's Waltz: Dedicated to my father, Dr. Donald S. Kelly, my mother Clementine, my brother Don, and the story of our family. Track 10 - Flying Dreams: My student Jim Warren used to take me aerobatic flying in his 1931 Waco, a 2 seat open-cockpit biplane. Once, during a barrel-roll, my unfastened head gear ripped off just as we went upside down over the Colorado skies. Seeing this infold as we were spinning, Jim switched hands on the joystick and grabbed into the wild blue yonder with his other, managing to hook the last inch of cord with his pinky. As we up-righted once again, he handed me the headset. Wow! Flying Dreams describes this amazing flight in a composition of musical onomatopoeia. Track 11 - Simple Day: Originally a duet written for Robert Franz, we never got around to recording the Primo. Years later, it's kind of poetic justice. The Primo would have been recorded by Robert who has since passed away. Rest in peace my friend.
