He's been acclaimed as "a genuine west coast song writing treasure" for his originality, lyricism and story telling magic. His music draws on a life of varied careers - engineer, economist, commercial fisherman, millworker, cabbie and historical consultant - and extended times spent in some amazing locales around the world. And a lot of time in folk music venues and sessions in the Pacific Northwest.

Brian's recently released second CD "Times & Places" represents the full range and power of his song writing prowess. Some of the tracks are just flat out fun, like The Spearfisherman, Roatan, Paddling Clayoquot Sound and Zeke Hoskin's Beer Is Good For You, or the humorous ballads A Weary Fireman's Thirst and The Skeezix. Others are serious without being maudlin, like George the Blacksmith, Asphalt Sea and Pity Poor Mother Nature. Or there's love and heartache delivered with searing honesty set to lovely tunes: The Russet Thrush, Another Lonely Night and the especially gorgeous lullaby Here Beside You. And if you want some funky blues, feel the healing power of Time Is a River.

As well, don't forget to check out his fine first album Saltchuck Serenade, a collection of original songs focused on rural West Coast themes of work, changing times and our environmental heritage. It features probably his best-known song, an environmental anthem performed by folk musicians and choirs all over the world, When the Tide Goes Out. Other fan favourites include the poignant Union Steam, the rollicking Tofino Herring Shanty and one of Brian's personal favourites, Coming Home.
