简介

BRIAN ROBERTSON - BIO Brian Robertson, singer-songwriter-guitarist, originally hails from Powell River, B.C., growing up in a time when there were no roads into the town, more people had boats than cars and the newspapers were always a day late. He’s had a varied life, working in paper mills and smelters, as a fisherman, salvage diver, cab driver, metallurgical engineer and economist while finding the time to travel extensively in more than 30 countries. He now shares his professional time between his music and historical research, primarily in aboriginal land claim issues. This CD is a celebration of his beloved west coast, from working songs of the sea drawn from his own experience to songs that celebrate its wonderful environmental heritage. It contains perhaps his best known song, When the Tide Goes Out, which has been recorded by more than a dozen other artists and is sung by folk musicians and choirs all over the world. Other audience favourites include the poignant Union Steam, the rollicking Tofino Herring Shanty and a personal favourite, Coming Home. Brian is best known for a strong collection of image laden songs about the west coast, many of which can be found on his CD “Saltchuck Serenade”. They may be funny or sad, whimsical or serious but they have the authentic feel of someone who has a deep knowledge and love of the west coast. Some are becoming favourites among folk singers, especially When the Tide Goes Out [the Table is Set]. But Brian has also written many other fine songs about love, social history, nature and the blues and his live sets have an eclectic sprinkling of them too. Stay tuned for a second album with more great songs. Accompanying Brian on "Saltchuck Serenade" are numerous fine musicians including Paul Gitlitz on mandolin and guitars, Cam Wilson on fiddle, Lee Oliphant on bass, Phil Belanger on percussion and Amy Stephen on accordion, flute and backup vocals.
