A tight rhythm section dissecting Afro-Colombian progressions, skankin’ guitars infusing reggae and ska grooves, hard hitting horns funkin’ and mixing up the Latin traditions and a front man recreating the ancient mythological stories of Colombia and Australia, all intertwine to create what is now Melbourne’s unique South American Roots outfit Madre Monte. Madre Monte’s sound is representative of Melbourne’s musical diversity, where Colombia’s unique ancestry of African, Indigenous and European descent is coming together with the local styles to shape the new Latin-Australian sound. Through their music the band give a history lesson in travel ling sounds, rhythms, instruments and the power of music to stay true to its roots yet adapt accordingly to new environments. 2014 saw Madre Monte teaming up with world-renowned act and musical heroes The Cat Empire for an Australian tour that had them play in front of 30,000 people over 6 weeks. This coupled with national radio airplay, independent tours and successful sales has positioned the band as one of the most sought after Roots act in Australia.
