简介

This disc is the fifth in a series that is my attempt at a creating a recorded archive of songs I have written or co-written.  These are the keepers that continue to find their way into set lists even 30 + years later. These tracks are recorded just the way the songs were written; just me and my guitar.  A few footnotes for this disc: "Fusion" is an attempt to answer the question I have been asked so often over the past 30 years..."What is it you call your music?" and the answer is - Fusion.  A bit of blues, a touch of jazz and a healthy dose of folk/Celtic inspired lyrics.  It is the newest of the pieces as of the recording of this project.  Most of the remaining 14 songs are older (make that more mature) and have found their way to earlier recordings now out of print. For the most part the songs are almost autobiographical and absolutely true.  Well OK, in the folk/troubadour tradition they are at least apocryphal which still counts as true. However; I need you to use your imagination on "Spinning Wheel".  The lyrics are from an actual visit with my eldest daughter and one of my earliest song writing partners, Holli Bara.  The song is in the older woman's voice.  The lyrics are Holli's. The songs speak for themselves as to their stories but I would note that the final cut "The Gypsy Fire" provided the name of our band, Gypsyfire, as well as our recording studio, production company and record label.  When my own songs began to emerge in 1987 Tom Baumgartner and I began to make the rounds of Houston Coffee Houses (mainly Munchies and Cafe Artiste on the edge of the Montrose neighborhood), as well as Open Mics and creativity retreats. We called ourselves Childs Play. In July of 1994 I had teamed up with a great guitar playing and song writing partner, Alan Frost, and we had our first paying gig. We needed a new name.  The song that had always gotten people up and moving was our closing tune, Gypsy Fire and Alan laughed and pointed to the song title on the set list and we had our name, Gypsyfire!   The rest is history.
