"Alabama native Davis Raines has a warm voice that's as bittersweet as tobacco, with subject matter to match. After working as a guard in a maximum security prison - including running a death row unit - Raines has gone on to write songs in Nashville that are more than a little reminiscent of the Hank Williams music of his youth. Raines sings an awful lot about people in desperate situations, but his boisterous voice and intelligent songwriting can adapt to just about any road he needs to travel."

On MOCKINGBIRD, Raines travels across the tracks to examine the other side of his musical influences - the Blues and R&B sounds that he grew up with, to celebrate his Deep South roots. Recorded in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, and produced by long-time collaborator, Grammy-nominee Tricia Walker, this may be their finest work to date. Instead of looking through the glass darkly, as he does on much of his previous material, Raines lightens up a little as he takes a fresh, positive look at his home and culture, and loses none of the lean, literate sensibilities he's known for.
