During the summer of 2016, Maria Sangiolo served as an Artist in Residence at the Edwin Way Teale Memorial Sanctuary, a Connecticut Audubon property. Prior to her stay, she collected stories from neighbors and friends about Edwin and Nellie Way Teale and some of their friends and contemporaries. This short collection of songs are a product of that residency. One of her friends, 94 year old Alison Davis, was a friend to the Teales, along with her late husband Wendell Davis. It was Wendell who first introduced Hampton to Edwin and Nellie in 1949 and helped them to purchase the farm that is now a public nature sanctuary for all to enjoy. Their son, Mark Davis, a renowned mandolinist and Conductor and Music Director of The Mandolin Orchestra in Providence, RI, accompanies Maria here on both mandolin and guitar. Edwin Way Teale was an American naturalist, photographer and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer. Teale's works serve as primary source material documenting environmental conditions across North America from 1930 - 1980. He is perhaps best known for his series The American Seasons, four books documenting over 75,000 miles (121,000 km) of automobile travel across North America following the changing seasons.
