Grace Among The Leavings is a wonderful novella by Beverly Fisher, who lives in Clarksville, TN. In July of 2014, we did a staged reading of an adaptation of the novella to playscript at Theatre In The Park at New Salem, IL, the village where Abe Lincoln lived as a young man. The novella is a story told from the perspective of an 11-yr.-old young lady named Grace Meadows whose father has gone off to fight in The Civil War on the side of the Confederacy and left her living with her grandparents in a rural area east of Nashville. Grace's mother has disappeared and, we learn later, has met a tragic end. It is an emotionally gripping story of the damage war does to everyone whether they are involved in the actual fighting or not. The music was intended as an illumination of the script.
