简介
Rocket, the trio's second full-length album, is filled with contributions from the dense orbit of talented players that make Austin a magnet for the creatives. Rocket tapped into local assets like mastering by Billy Stull (Okkervil River, Daniel Johnston), mixing by Jeff Hoskins (Foot Patrol, Cactus Cafe), and pedal-steel playing by Gary Newcomb (Bruce Robison, Li'l Cap'n Travis). The individual appeal of Rocket extends to its hand-crafted packaging, created by the artist Adam Young and printer Jaime Cervantes; the mood reflects DNN's mix of darkness and innocence, like a tale by the Brothers Grimm. Rocket's tracks excel in pop shapeshifting: the riffed, sprawling "Electrolux," the masochistic, Latin-flavored "Tango," the love as flash-burning resource, "Gasoline," the dirty-talk thrash of "Take It" and the psychedelic, girl-group layers of "Stars" are just a few of the album's touchstones. Former drummer, Reid Faist, penned the pop-gem cum addict's-lament, "Sydney."
