简介
I was born and raised in Switzerland into a very musical family, with my older siblings all playing in bands by the age of 14. My parents listened to a lot of jazz, gospel, rhythm & blues, French chanson and German folk music. My siblings, on the other hand, listened to everything from rock to reggae so I really had no choice but to listen to all of this wonderful music growing up. Being Swiss doesn’t just mean loving chocolate (which I do by the way) it means growing up with many languages, so along with all the music I developed a very good ear from an early age. It was no surprise that I started off as a dancer at the age of 9 and became the lead singer of my sister’s band at the age of 13. I was very fortunate to travel and work as a singer/hip hop dancer in many countries, including Europe, Mexico and North Africa but it was when I lived in Mexico for a couple of years that my life changed completely. Mexico was a watershed country for me. I had my first cultural crush and fell head over heels in love with the Mexican ways, the exquisite food and… of course THE MUSIC! It was an epiphany! I didn’t just fall for the hits but for traditional folk music too - the Mariachis, the Rancheros, and the classics of Mexico’s Golden Age. I just could not get enough of it! After years of working with different bands, styles of music and songwriters around the world, I reconnected with my first love 'jazz' and recorded my first album 'Introducing...Coco Favre', a collection of my favourite jazz and Latin songs when I was growing up, some new, some old and some that I discovered on the way. Executive Producer: Coco Favre Musical Production & Arrangements: Reuben Bradley The Trio: Drums: Reuben Bradley Piano & Fender Rhodes: Ben Wilcock Double Bass: Rowan Clark 100% New Zealand Made Review by Aleisha Ward (for the NZ Musician Magazine): "Introducing… Coco Favre" is a solid debut album by Wellington vocalist Coco Favre that does a fine job of living up to its title. Accompanied by the Reuben Bradley Trio (Bradley on drums, Ben Wilcock piano/Rhodes and Rowan Clarke on bass), the Swiss-born Favre charms with a range of jazz standards, both old and new. Arranged by Bradley and well supported by the trio, her voice has a delicious range of show-style tonalities and inflections, from dark, deep and bluesy, to light and winsome. Favre further illustrates the range of her different vocal moods and tonal inflections by singing in English, Spanish and French on various tracks, adding another layer of appeal. The Reuben Bradley Trio are equal partners in this, interweaving interesting and exciting lines and solos without overwhelming her vocals, nor disappearing into the background. Recorded at various Wellington studios including NZSM, with mixing and mastering by Mike Gibson at Munki Studios, this album has a broad palette and charming tone. A delightful take on popular and enduring jazz standards, with its laid back attitude Coco Favre’s introduction will appeal to listeners unfamiliar with the genre as much as it will jazz fans.
