简介
Mostly recorded in February of 2011 in a highly productive two-week period (with the final two songs completed in early March 2011), "Newsound Same" was essentially the result of a retuned twelve-string acoustic guitar and two nights of just seeing what chords could be played in succession on it. The lyrics tell the tale of a modern musician (it could be you) and his/her attempt to be heard in an environment which increasingly relegates music to background noise, and leaves aside artists in favor of personalities. Or they can also be telling the tale of how one person attempts to relate to others in more general terms (as words can oftentimes have two meanings). Or they can mean whatever resonates postiively with you. "Newsound Same" continues a general storyline which was first established on Glen Burg's first solo release of 2011, the instrumental/New Age "Home: A Reflection" (also available here), and continued upon his second recording project of 2011, the soon-to-be-released Wilson-esque "Pacific Atlantic". Drawing from many classic Californian influences such as Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, America, Christopher Cross, Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles, newer influences and nods are also brought in: John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Vampire Weekend, and the like. Once referred to jokingly by Glen as "the commercial album", "Newsound Same" is in fact his most accessible to date, with catchy melodies buoyed by an abundance of harmonies and ear-catching arrangements. Listeners in search of "a good song" will most likely find at least one, and quite possibly many more, to their liking here. If this were a major-label release, singles would probably be splashed via radio stations across North America. Here's your chance to hear them before the record companies do.
