Calibro 35

Calibro 35

简介:意大利 funk , jazz , alternative rock 乐团。 From digging in dusty vinyl crates for obscure samples to the airwaves of Italy’s most important music
radio station, Italian indie funk combo CALIBRO 35 have taken quite a sonic journey. The discovery
of Italian '60s and '70s soundtracks in 2007 was the inspirational springboard for the formation of this
five-piece band helmed by Tommaso Colliva (Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Arto Lindsay) and his musical
cast of characters: Massimo Martellotta (Stewart Copeland) on guitars and steel guitars, Enrico
Gabrielli (Mike Patton) on keyboards, brass and flute, Fabio Rondanini on drums and Luca Cavina on bass. In 2008, Colliva invited his music pals to record what would become their self-titled debut album at
OmniaB studios in Milan and within the first two days together, Calibro 35 blossomed into an
outstanding combo performing classic and obscure themes, trying to bring something contemporary
to the compositions but still remaining very respectful tothe originals. Original tunes appeared soon
with the same aim, recreating the attitude, the sound and that strange mixture between jazz, funk,
rock, classical and improvisation that made Italian soundtracks known worldwide. The album received
enthusiastic reviews in Italian and international press and airplay on many leading radio stations
including the BBC. Calibro 35 did extensive touring throughout 2008 in Italy and Europe, and in 2009
they made it to the U.S. performing select shows including Nublu in New York City and the Henry
Fonda Theater in the West Coast. They were also invited to perform live at KCRW’s “Morning
Becomes Eclectic” hosted by Jason Bentley.
On July 13, American music fans will have a chance to sample their brilliant recreations of Italian
soundtracks and originals works on their U.S, debut album “Ritornano Quelli Di.... Calibro 35” or
“The Return of... Calibro35” (Nublu Records). Their U.S. debut album which
includes original artwork by Giuliano Nistri, the renowned painter who created original 60s and 70s
original film posters including “La Notte,” features eight original compositions as well as recreations
of well known works of Italian film composers Ennio Morricone, Gianni Ferrio, Ritz Ortonali and Piero
Umiliani.
