During a tour of Benni’s earlier band in which Severin takes part as a guest musician, the two of them have discovered their mutual love for acoustic guitar music. Already at that early stage, they write their first songs together and busk on the streets of Stuttgart. Despite temperatures below freezing, these songs are well received by the audience and it soon becomes clear that the spur-of-the-moment project is to be continued long-term and more seriously. As a result of night-long conversations about the future and about their shared vision of being able to live from their music, the new band’s name is coined – Kids of Adelaide. For Benni and Severin, “Adelaide” is a synonym for a faraway destination which can be reached despite any obstacles, if only they are persistent enough and stay on the road for as long as it takes to get there. Their aim is to live for and by music. “Kids of” denotes that they are the children of their dreams. 2011 The first paid appearance is not long in coming. More and more songs are being written and a few select cover versions of songs that flowed from the feather of Bob Dylan or The Tallest Man On Earth, supplement their repertoire. After the cold and dark time of the year has passed, the Kids spend the following spring creating a name for themselves. *They achieve this by playing at various concerts such as the 8th International Festival of Street Music in Ludwigsburg and the Summer Shipyard Festival in Frankfurt on the Main but predominantly on the city streets. At the same time, the recordings for their first album “Songs For You And Me” are being completed and an own website is established. Yet before the CD is pressed and released, the Kids of Adelaide are planning a street music tour through the Netherlands. Together with Severin’s brother Sebastian Specht and another “brother in spirit”, they set out on their journey in an old Volkswagen bus. A supposedly reliable source praised Holland as a paradise for street musicians. Although the assertion does not prove to be one hundred percent true, the tour turns out to be a key experience for the Kids. The experience hardens their decision to strive for a life making music. Back home, the album “Songs For You And Me” is being pressed and the first batch of 500 is sold out just a few months later. The Kids go on the local radio station SWR 2 for the first time, and that’s how the independent label Green Elephant Records in Stuttgart becomes aware them. Together with the singer-songwriter Tiemo Hauer as producer, the EP “Kids of Adelaide” is being recorded in the Bauer Studios and released in the autumn of 2011. The following nationwide tour as supporting act of Tiemo Hauer is a huge success. The Kids are given the opportunity to play in front of an audience of more than one thousand people, in renowned cult clubs like the LKA-Longhorn in Stuttgart. As if intended by divine providence, this particular concert takes place on the first anniversary of the band’s foundation. 2012 The new year is starting as well as the old one has ended. After a series of concerts of their own in the Stuttgart area, the second part of the nationwide Tiemo Hauer support tour ensues, which takes the Kids to Dortmund and Bremen. As a result, the EP “Kids of Adelaide” is sold out merely three months after its release and has to be re-pressed. In spring, more support shows follow - with the singer-songwriters Max Prosa from Berlin and Max Francois from Stuttgart. On top of that, the first demonstration versions of the new album “Home” are being recorded, in which the band’s further musical development is distinctly discernible. By now, mandolin and bass drum have become a permanent component of the Kids’ sound and they are experimenting more with vocals. The first audience to witness this are at the 9th International Festival of Street Music in Ludwigsburg. After the new songs have received the finishing touches, Benni’s living room is converted into a recording studio. With borrowed equipment and with Severin’s brother Sebastian Specht acting as sound engineer, the Kids of Adelaide create the new album entirely under their own direction. The Kids then play at the Blue Balls Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland, - thus for the first time outside Germany -, before taking off for a summer break. The French coast of the Atlantic where they spent their holiday together, provides the setting for the music video of the song “Moving” from the album “Home”. After this they set to work refining and mixing the songs for the new album. Ivan Zozulya, an artist friend, takes care of the art work. The CD “Home” is released by Green Elephant Records, right on time for the Kids’ Tiemo Hauer support tour in November 2012 and sells over 2000 copies. Somewhere in between, the Kids are hired to support the English folk-rock band Dry the River, in Munich. 2013 The year 2013 begins with two support shows with Allen Stone, the American soul music star, and the second part of the Tiemo Hauer support tour. Then follow the Kids’ first headliner concerts in Stuttgart and in Berlin, as well as their first major appearance on radio for FluxFM Berlin & FluxFM Stuttgart. At the 10th International Festival of Street Music in Ludwigsburg, the Kids reach a good fourth place. Shortly afterwards, FluxFM organises a concert with the American country-rock band Houndmouth and Kids of Adelaide in Berlin. In early summer 2013, on two Marc Owen support shows, the Kids experience a taste of the old Take That-feeling. A support show with the folk duo Mrs. Greenbird follows. And after that they are invited to back up the surf- and music legend Donavon Frankenreiter in four big German cities. As an absolute highlight of this summer, they get the chance to accompany the English singer-songwriter Jamie Cullum as support on four of his concerts in Germany. The settings are spectacular: The Citadel in Berlin, The Young Guard in Dresden, the Courtyard in Coburg and the Palace Gardens in Schwetzingen. For the first time in their career, the Kids of Adelaide play music in front of up to 5000 people. And more important, it is only the two of them, still everything home-made and authentic. The Jamie Cullum support tour offers the Kids not only a look into the Champions League of the music business but also an incentive to set their own standards higher yet. After a summer break, the Kids hit the road in their own name for the “Take a Walk on the Child Side”- Club Tour. In seven major German cities they take to the stage. The Cellar Club in Stuttgart is sold out yet again, the same goes for the venues in Berlin and in Frankfurt. 2014 After the successful club tour, the Kids return to the studio in order to record their next album, “Byrth“, with Sebastian Specht now acting as their producer. The expected date of release is 2nd May 2014. The Kids of Adelaide are looking forward to their spring tour which will take them right across Germany, in the company of the English singer-songwriter Ricky Dean Howard as a co-headliner.
