简介：Sam Pickering Pick wrote the material for The Attic Tapes in the spring and summer of 1998. It was later recorded at FFG in Gloucestershire, where Sam grew up. The recording was completed during two short evening sessions: one in early July, 1998 and one in late December of the same year. For his second album, Mission Hill, Sam wrote a collection of country-influenced folk and rock songs; a notable departure from his straight-folk debut. Recording once more at his family's studio, FFG, he assembled a group of veteran session musicians and friends, including Duncan Forrester (This Picture) and Maurice Hipkiss, a former Nashville pedal steel guitarist. The album received some US college airplay in 2001. Around the same time, Sam was playing live in London at various acoustic music venues. Shortly before leaving London, he played in support of Bill Mallonee, singer and songwriter for Vigilantes of Love. Sam Pickering Pick moved to California in late 2002, and in 2003 he began work on his next album, On Rocket Rapture, using a portable studio and producing the songs himself. Finished in early 2004, the result is a low-key, mostly acoustic set of songs exploring the life of Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. Pickering Pick played all the instruments, including a vintage piccolo accordion and guitars. Soon after completing On Rocket Rapture, he wrote and recorded the EP Codex Aureus, a collection of eight short acoustic songs. In 2005, Sam laid down the tracks for a new album, Trafalgar, which was finished in late February. Waxwing appeared in late August of the same year. Both albums were self-produced and released in digital format. After a break of a year, Sam recorded and released Lost Transmissions in August of 2006, again releasing the entire album on RYM for free download. Nine months later, in May 2007 The Pacific Ocean was released. Sam followed The Pacific Ocean with 2008's A Twitch Upon The Thread, then the EP Salley Gardens. In 2010, Sam recorded and released The Boy In The Back.
