简介
Paul Tabachneck is a Harlem-based, Pittsburgh-grown singer-songwriter (and a doting collector of hyphenates.) In 1997, Tabachneck and his then-band, Stone Soup, began work on what would be their second album, "Baker's Dozen." The lineup, consisting of Adam Sivitz on drums, Ben Good on bass, and Gar Misra on co-lead vocals, electric guitar, and piano, had a considerably more aggressive approach than the one heard on "(self-titled debut)," and the songs Tabachneck and Misra were writing were growing in strength and number. In 1998, Misra elected to leave the band, agreeing in his exit deal to play on five more Tabachneck songs to replace his four. The result brought the track total up from 13 to 14, but also, made Tabachneck feel that he couldn't release under the band name any longer (the name was Misra's, and by then the band had lost a total of two of its primary songwriters): hence, Paul Tabachneck released "Glutton's Dozen" in April of 1999. The album came out at a high point in Tabachneck's solo career — his weekly shows at the coffeeshop Cafe Au Lait in the South Side of Pittsburgh had a consistent and full showing, and had honed his songwriting skills keeping that audience happy — so the album was an immediate success, as it was packed with audience favorites such as "Anymore," "Lani, Lani," "Come Home," and "Emily Stares." The songs were generally about relationships (Philip Harris, in his review for Pittsburgh magazine, noted that the album was "14 songs about love, lost love, longing for lost love, and longing to love for lost love long lost"), but the album itself was eclectic and engaging, thanks in part to Tabachneck's love of different genres and to Matt Harrington's sterling engineering and production skills. Few physical copies of this album exist, and it is unlikkely to ever see a reprint, but we are pleased to be able to offer it digitally!
